Built to make Australian manufacturing more competitive

Our story

Good Plastics was built on a straightforward belief: that plastics manufacturing can be done more responsibly, and that responsibility can make a business stronger rather than less competitive.

Kulbir Dhanda founded Good Plastics after more than twenty years in plastics engineering, working hands-on across product development, tooling and injection moulding. He set out to build a company that could help Australian manufacturers compete internationally while taking greater responsibility for materials, production and what happens to a product after use.

At the time, many businesses were reluctant to consider bio-based materials or change established manufacturing processes. Kulbir kept going. He built relationships with manufacturers, material specialists and researchers, then focused on turning promising ideas into products that could work in commercial production.

Today, Good Plastics supports product design, precision tooling, injection moulding, 3D printing, international manufacturing, material development and research.

Why Good Plastics exists

Australian businesses often face an awkward choice.

They can manufacture overseas and gain access to scale, specialist equipment and competitive pricing, but lose visibility and control.

Or they can stay closer to home and work within a smaller range of capability.

Good Plastics connects the two.

Our clients work with an Australian engineering and project team while production is delivered through an international manufacturing network.

There is one point of accountability from the first drawing through to the finished part.

Our vision

For Australian manufacturers to compete internationally through better engineering, stronger supply chains and more responsible material decisions.

Our mission

To give clients one accountable partner across product development, tooling, production, materials and end-of-life planning.

The Next Life Economy

A product’s story shouldn’t end when the customer stops using it.

The Next Life Economy is Good Plastics’ developing framework for considering recovery, processing and the next use of a material from the beginning of product development.

That means looking at:

Material performance

Manufacturing

Collection

Separation

Processing

Recovery

Possible next use

The evidence behind each claim

This work is still being developed through research, trials and project-specific partnerships.

We don’t present a future pathway as if it already exists.

We look closely at the engineering

Small design and tooling decisions can have a major effect on part quality, cycle time and production cost.

We’re clear about the evidence

Published results, active testing and future goals are treated differently.

We stay accountable

Clients work with one locally managed team responsible for coordinating the project.

We protect confidential information

Client designs, tooling and commercial information are protected throughout the supply chain.

We focus on what can be delivered

A promising idea only becomes useful when it can be manufactured, supplied and used successfully.

Our promise

We’ll communicate expectations clearly and follow through on what we agree to do.

We’ll give you clear advice based on the product, the manufacturing requirements and the available evidence.

We’ll communicate expectations clearly and follow through on what we agree to do.

We’ll keep building stronger connections between local engineering and specialist international manufacturing capability.

We’ll continue investigating how materials can perform during use and move into a more responsible pathway afterwards.
